ANAMOSA BOY GETS WOUNDS

Rex Edwards Hurt Fighting in Italy

Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Edwards received a telegram from the War Department Saturday notifying them that their son, Pfc. Rex O. Edwards, was seriously wounded in action in Italy on July 8.

Rex was inducted April 14, 1941. He received his training at Camp Claiborne, and was a member of the 133rd infantry, Iowa National Guard. Pfc. Edwards had 28 months service overseas before he was wounded.

Three Brothers

He served in Ireland, England, Africa and on the Anzio beach head. He took part in the capture of Rome, and spent a five-day rest leave in that city. Rex is a member of the famed 34th division.

He has three brothers In the service. Sergt. Neil P. Edwards is stationed in the South Pacific; Pvt. Clarence Edwards is in Normandy, and Pvt. William B. Edwards is in training at the Fity General hospital, Denver, Colo.

Parents Get Word Of Death Following Wounds In Action

photoJones county added another name to the list of war dead this week when death of Pfc. Rex Edwards was reported to his parents. List now totals 15, including only men who are natives of the county.

Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Edwards received the telegram from the war department last Saturday notifying them of their son's death from wounds received in Italy on July 8. Pfc. Edwards died the same day he received his wounds. They had received a telegram a week earlier telling of his wounds.

Inducted In 1941

Rex Edwards was born Dec. 14, 1914, in Saskatchewan, Canada. He came to Iowa with his parents at the age of seven. He graduated from Monmouth high school, and was employed on the farm-Later he worked for the Reid Hybrid company, Anamosa, and the Concrete Materials company, Cedar Rapids. He was inducted into the service April 14, 1941, and was trained at Camp Claiborne, La. He was a member of the 133rd Infantry, 34th Division. Rex served 28 months overseas before his death.

Also surviving are his parents, one sister, Mrs. Tom Jensen, Jr., Anamosa; his maternal grandmother, and three nephews.
